How did Littlefinger die

Is Petyr Baelish Still Alive? Fan Theory explains how Littlefinger could have escaped execution by Arya Stark

The execution of Petyr Baelish by Arya Stark came as a shock to many viewers. Almost a year ago, a fan proposed a theory that Littlefinger is still alive in season 8 - and how that is directly related to his strange behavior in the end.

A theory for which all parts fit together

The profound theory of MrSilenceT describes that Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) at the end of season seven, not Petyr Baelish's throat (Aidan Gillen), but the one slashed by a "man without a face". The Reddit user supported his speculations with a whole lot of video material.

Littlefinger laid the foundation for his plan in the episode spoils of warin which he is watched by Arya talking to an unknown blonde in a shady passage. You can hear her apologize to him and tell him that his time is up.

Then he gives her a coin that is very reminiscent of the iron coin Arya got from Jaqen H'ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) in Season 2. According to the theory, the recipient of the coin was a member of the Faceless Menwho pretends to be little fingers in the season finale and is executed in his place.

Kleinfinger's background story supports the theory

Baelish's own story further supports the theory: Over the course of the series, he mentioned that he had a grandfather from Braavos. He certainly knows very well about the faceless men - even if he denies that to Sansa (Sophie Turner). So it is not surprising that he is in possession of one of these special iron coins.

He also acted very strangely shortly before his execution: he ran around begging for mercy and howling like a little girl. MrSilenceT has produced three video evidence that shows: Even in the eye of death, Baelish is usually still calculated and controlled. Fans have already criticized that Kleinfinger's behavior in his "last moments" didn't fit the character at all.

Why didn't Bran see anything?

Now one or the other will certainly ask: Why did Bran Stark a.k.a. Didn't the three-eyed raven foresee that? The answer to this is quite simple: Bran cannot (yet) see everything. He also revealed to his sister Sansa in the episode The Queen's Justice already that he still has to learn to use his ability better.

For example, Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) saw that bastard Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was actually the son of Lyanna Stark, not Eddard Stark. What he couldn't see or hear at the time, however, was Jon's real name. He only found out about this from Samwell Tarly, who also told him about the legal marriage between Lyanna and Rhaegar Targaryen.

According to MrSilenceT, Bran is also too focused on the Night King and may have "overlooked" Littlefinger's potential trick. The fact that Baelish faked his death and may have already left Winterfell after Season 7 Episode 4 (where he talks to the blonde girl) could have caused Bran to lose sight of him completely.

The most important information about Game of Thrones

We'll find out at the earliest whether Littlefinger is actually still alive on April 14, 2019 when the eighth and final season game of Thrones starts and The Song of Ice and Fire on HBO concludes. Then it goes for game of Thrones but continues with a lot of spin-offs and prequels.
