Set up Do Not Disturb on iPhone

You can activate Do Not Disturb mode to quickly mute your iPhone - for example, to avoid being disturbed at dinner or in the theater. The mode has the effect that messages and calls are muted and the screen does not light up.

Activate the "Do not disturb" option

Ask Siri: For example, say, “Turn on Do Not Disturb,” or “Turn off Do Not Disturb.” Learn to speak with Siri.

  1. Alternatively, do the following: Open Control Center, tap and activate the "Do not disturb" option.

When Do Not Disturb is enabled, will displayed in the status bar.

  2. Hang up in the control center if you want to set the end time for the Do Not Disturb option. Then select an option (e.g. "1 hour" or "Until the end of this event").

You can also tap on “Schedule”, activate the “Scheduled” option and set the start and end of the period.

Allow calls even though the "Do not disturb" option is activated

  1. Select "Settings" > "Do not disturb".

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Tap Allow Calls From: The incoming calls of the selected groups are allowed and put through.

    • Activate the option "Repeated calls": Repeated calls from the same number are interpreted as an emergency call and put through.

Allow calls and messages from emergency contacts when Do Not Disturb is turned on

You can have certain contacts' calls and messages go through, even if Do Not Disturb is turned on. To do this, do the following:

  1. Open the "Contacts" app .

  2. Select a contact and tap on "Edit".

  3. Tap Ringtone or Message Tone, then turn on Emergency Workaround.

Alternatively, you can create an emergency pass and define an emergency contact.

Calls and messages from emergency contacts are accepted even if Do Not Disturb is enabled.

Schedule rest time

  1. Select "Settings" > "Do not disturb".

  2. Activate the "Scheduled" option and set the beginning and the end of the rest period.

Tip: In the Health app, you can create a sleep schedule to help you achieve your sleep goals. For more information, see Set Up Your First Sleep Schedule in the Health app on iPhone.

Set the condition for muting the iPhone using the Do Not Disturb option

You can choose whether the Do Not Disturb option mutes the iPhone only when it is locked or also when it is unlocked.

  1. Select "Settings" > "Do not disturb".

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Always mute iPhone when Do Not Disturb is turned on: Tap Always.

    • Mute iPhone only when locked: Tap When iPhone Is Locked.

While driving, it is a good idea to use the Do Not Disturb While Driving option to avoid being distracted by calls, text messages, and messages.
