Can ghosts ghosts communicate with each other

The spirit world

Teachings of Brigham Young

The spirits of the dead go into the spirit world

If you put down this mortal shell, where do you go? Into the spirit world. (DBY, 376.)

Are the bad spirits who leave here and enter the spirit world still bad there? Yes sir. (DNW, August 27, 1856, 3.)

When the spirit leaves its body ... it is ready to see, hear and understand spiritual things. ... Can you see ghosts in this room? No. Suppose the Lord touched your eyes so that you could see, could you then see the spirits? Yes, as clearly as you now see the bodies, like the servant of Elisha [see 2 Kings 6:16, 17]. If the Lord would allow it and it were His will that it happen, you could see the spirits that have separated from this world as clearly as you now see the bodies with your natural eyes. (DBY, 376f.)

Jesus opened the door to salvation for those in the spirit world

Jesus was the first person who ever went to preach to the spirits in prison for having the keys to bringing them the gospel of salvation. Those keys were given to him on the day and hour he entered the spirit world, and with them he unlocked the door of salvation to the spirits in prison. (DBY, 378.)

We want to sacrifice enough to do the will of God and prepare to bring those who have not heard the gospel while in the flesh for the simple reason that they do not perform the ordinances of the house of God in the spirit world can. They have passed the tests of faith and are beyond the possibility of personally performing the acts of forgiveness and exaltation, so they must trust that their friends, children, and grandchildren will perform them for them so that they can enter the celestial kingdom of God can get. (DBY, 406.)

Compare those earthly inhabitants who have heard of the gospel in our day with the millions who have never heard of it and to whom the keys of salvation have never been presented, and like me you will immediately draw the conclusion that it is in the spirit world a tremendous job to do. (DBY, 377.)

Think about the millions and millions of people who have lived and died without hearing the gospel on earth - without the keys to the kingdom of God. They did not prepare for celestial glory, and there was no power to prepare them for it without the keys of the priesthood. (DBY, 378.)

Father Smith [Joseph Smith Sr.] and Carlos [Smith] and Brother [Edward] Partridge, yes, and every other good Saint are as busy in the spirit world as you and I are here. They can see us, but we cannot see them unless our eyes open. What are they doing there? They preach, preach all the time, and prepare the way for us to speed up our work of building temples here and elsewhere. (DBY, 378.)

The work of every faithful person will go on as long as the work of Jesus, until all that can be redeemed is redeemed and given to the Father. There is a lot of work ahead of us. (DBY, 378.)

The spirit that lives on this earth in this earthly shell, when it leaves it, goes directly into the world of spirits. What! A great crowd of people there in the spirit interacting with each other like here? Yes, brothers, they are together there, and when they interact with one another and gather in clans and societies, like here, then they are allowed to do so too. There is no doubt that they still, more or less, see, hear and talk and deal with each other, for better or for worse. When the elders of Israel go and preach to the spirits in prison at this last time, they will associate with them, just as our elders associate with the wicked in the flesh when they go and preach to them. (DBY, 378.)

The spirit world is an active place where growth and progress are possible

When you are in the spirit world, everything will feel as natural to you as it does now. The spirits will be familiar with the spirits in the spirit world - they will talk to them, see them and communicate with them in all possible ways, just as familiarly and naturally as here in the earthly shell. There, as here, everything will be natural, and you will understand it all as you understand something natural now. You will see there that those spirits we speak of are active; they do not sleep. And you will experience that they exert themselves with all their might - that they strive diligently, just as someone struggles here in this world who wants to achieve something. (DBY, 380.)

The spirits are as familiar with the spirits as a body is familiar with bodies, even if a spirit consists of so fine matter that it is not as tangible as this coarser organism. They go and talk and have their meetings; and the spirits of good people, like Joseph and the elders, who left this church on earth for a time to work in another sphere, gather all their forces and go from place to place preaching the gospel, and Joseph guide them and tell them: go ahead, my brothers, and if they block your way, go and tell them to disperse. You have the priesthood and you can disperse them, but if any of them want to hear the gospel, preach it to them. (DBY, 379.)

As for saying goodbye to our friends and our own passing, I can say that I've been close enough to understand eternity that it took a lot more faith to wish myself life than I did in mine had to practice a lifetime in order to live. The radiant glory of the next apartment is indescribable. It is not burdened in such a way that as we get old we have to stumble around being careful not to fall. We see even our children poke their toes and fall frequently. But it's completely different there! You move with ease and like lightning. If we want to visit Jerusalem or this, that or any other place - and I suppose we will be allowed to do so if we want to - we are already there and looking at the streets. If we want to see Jerusalem as it was in the days of the Savior, or if we want to see the Garden of Eden as it was at the time of His creation, we are already there and we see it as it existed spiritually, for he was created first spiritually and then temporally, and spiritually he still remains. And when we are there, we can see the earth as we did at the dawn of creation, or we can visit another city that exists on the earth at will. If we want to know how people live here on these western islands or in China, that's where we are; in fact we are like the light of the morning. ... God has revealed a few little things about what he does and what he is in power, and the action and speed of lightning illustrate very well the capabilities of the Almighty. (DBY, 380.)

When we enter the spirit world, we will have some measure of its power. Here we are constantly beset by evils and diseases of all kinds. In the spirit world we are free from it all and enjoy life, glory and intelligence; and we have the Father speaking to us and Jesus speaking to us, and we shall enjoy the company of the righteous and the pure who are in the spirit world until the day of resurrection. (DBY, 380f.)

So suppose someone is evil at heart - totally devoted to wickedness - and dies in that state; when he enters the spirit world his spirit is out for evil. If, on the other hand, we strive with all the strength and ability that God has given us to develop our talents and prepare ourselves to dwell in eternal life, and the grave receives our bodies while we are busy with them Inclinations will our minds then step into the next level? He will still be anxious to do what is of God, only to a much greater extent - he will learn and develop and grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth. (DBY, 379.)

When we are faithful to our religion, when we enter the spirit world, the fallen spirits - Lucifer and the third part of the heavenly hosts who came with him, and the spirits of the wicked people who have lived here on earth become them all together - have no influence on our mind. Isn't that an advantage? But. All other human children are more or less subordinate to them, and they are just as subject to them as they were when they were still here in the flesh. (DBY, 379.)

Here [the faithful] are confused and hunted by him; but if we go into the spirit world, we will be masters of the power of Satan there, and he can no longer harass us, and it is enough for me to know that. (DNW, October 1, 1856, 3.)

If someone is baptized for the forgiveness of sins and dies shortly afterwards, they are not immediately ready to receive the fulness of glory promised to those who are faithful in the gospel; for while he is in the Spirit he must be trained in the rest of the divisions of the house of God and move from truth to truth, intelligence to intelligence, until he is ready to get his body back and enter the presence of the Father and the Son . We cannot enter celestial glory in our present state of ignorance and spiritual darkness. (DBY, 378f.)

We have more friends behind the veil than on this side, and they will greet us more joyfully than you have ever been welcomed by your parents and friends in this world; and when you see her you will rejoice even more than you have ever rejoiced in this life to see a friend; and then we will go from step to step, from joy to joy, our happiness will become more and more perfect and palpable as we move forward in the words and powers of life. (DBY, 379f.)

If we get through this state of being into the next room, as I would like to call it, we will not stop there. We will go on doing as much good as we can, serving and officiating for all we serve and for whom we may minister, and then move on to the next and again until the Lord is faithful to all who are on this earth and the work of the earth is completed, and the Savior we are helping has finished his job and the earth and all that it belongs to will be given to the Father. Then the faithful will receive their blessings and their crown, and their inheritance will be established for them, and then they will go on, world after world, and multiply forever and ever. (DBY, 376.)
