What is Rafele's problem

Evaluation of fighter jets - The Rafale in the test program

In the last evaluation, the price of the French jet was a main topic. This time the money could be enough for more planes.

Rafale is what the French call a gust or a gust of wind - and that's what they call their most modern jet fighter. An in-house development that is currently being tested by Swiss specialists in Payerne.

Seven years ago, the Rafale was considered the favorite. But the Federal Council decided to buy the cheaper Gripen from Sweden, which the voters then rejected. For the French manufacturer Dassault, this is still a bitter defeat today. “We actually lost because we weren't selected,” says Philippe da Silva Passos from Dassault Aviation. "In the technical evaluation, however, we achieved first place."

A maximum of six billion francs

The Rafale is considered an expensive aircraft. The question arises of whether expensive jets still stand a chance after Defense Minister Viola Amherd set a maximum purchase price of six billion last week.

Aviation expert Hansjörg Bürgi assumes that significantly more than the often mentioned minimum of 30 aircraft can be financed. "If you divide this six billion by 40, that gives a system price of 150 million," says Bürgi. For this money you get the plane that Switzerland needs.

Only 60 percent compensation

A second decision by the Federal Council could make expensive jet fighter types significantly cheaper. Manufacturers no longer have to compensate 100 percent of the purchase price with counter-deals to Swiss industry, but only 60 percent. "This should lower the price, which means that Switzerland will get more aircraft at a better price," said Bürgi.

Will the plane be cheaper with only 60 percent compensation? He does not go into such economic considerations, says Philippe da Silva Passos. "They are secret, both for us as the manufacturer and for the Swiss customer."

In addition to the Rafale, four other fighter jets are being tested here in Payerne. At the very end, at the end of June, the Gripen from Sweden again.

Can I assume that the people who reject my comment have neither experienced NBC drill nor have they ever worn NBC protective clothing?
or do you just like actions that are contrary to international law?

@ Alex Kramer: We have seen all of this but, unlike you, we were happy to be protected for at least a few hours.

The Rafale has already proven itself in the war, it says there (on the F / A-18 and F-35 as well). That you can advertise in the Ö-r area with a war of aggression in Libya that is contrary to international law, with our chosen neutrality?
For me this is hypocrisy of the highest order. Like in 1991 in the RS, when we were drilled against NBC attacks with capes and plastic gloves, and 3 years later we were told that the newly introduced protective suit only offered protection for the few hours of the evacuation at the most.

2125km / h. What do we need a plane for that can fly from one border to another in 8 minutes? For such a small country, and also neutral, this is unprecedentedly exaggerated madness, in which it is only a matter of making the armaments industry happy. A couple of fast, well-armed combat helicopters would be much more effective against BöFeis for our country. And anyway: 99% of today's threats come from the Internet. My no to every flyer proposal is certain.

@ Achim Frill: I assume you don't drive your car at 250 km / h either, even if the speedometer goes as far as that.
      Agree agree to the comment
    2. answer from Michel Koller (Mica)
These are top speeds that are not even close to being reached in normal operation but are still available in an emergency. Combat helicopters do not replace aircraft ... How should a helicopter check a civil aircraft at its speed and altitude?
