Calorie table alcohol: the party fat maker
Alcohol is definitely not a component of a healthy diet. Those who still cannot do without it should only enjoy alcoholic drinks very rarely and in moderation. Because a look at the Calorie table alcohol shows: Beer, wine and sparkling wine are not exactly slimming products.
Big belly from beer, love handles from champagne
One gram of pure alcohol (such as in spirits) contains 7 kilocalories. That is almost twice as much as there is in one gram of sugar (4 kcal) and almost as much as one gram of fat contains (approx. 9 kcal). And 20 grams of pure alcohol - you can find it in half a liter of beer, a quarter of a liter of wine or three glasses of schnapps, for example - are always drunk. You then have to add the calories from sugar, yeast and other ingredients, depending on the drink. The tricky thing: alcohol inhibits the breakdown of fat in the body. So we take in calories that are at the same time even worse than usual. In addition, alcohol stimulates the appetite. Anyone who reaches for something salty like chips or nuts now gets thirsty again. Anything but a lean vicious circle ...
Cravings from alcohol
As with food, there is also a glycemic index (GI) for alcoholic beverages. It shows how much the blood sugar level rises after drinking wine, beer, etc. The higher the GI, the higher the sugar content and the higher the secretion of insulin in the blood. If the value is particularly high, the blood sugar level first rises rapidly and then - after two to four hours - a rapid drop. The result: cravings. Many nutritionists believe that a diet dominated by foods with high GI values leads to obesity. Drinks with high GI values are: beer, gin and tonic, alcoholic mixed drinks and alcopops.
Alcohol calorie table: Prosecco rather than champagne
From a calorie point of view, a dry Prosecco is better than a glass of champagne because it usually contains up to two percent less alcohol. Basically, sweet alcohols contain the most calories. Attention: In supermarkets, the average wines are usually heavily sugared. Because Germans would like to drink dry wines, but they shouldn't be sour. In general, real dry types of sparkling wine and wines from specialist retailers are a good choice and contain the fewest calories in comparison.
Alcohol calorie table: mixed drinks are tough
Delicious cocktails are often mixed with cream and sweet fruit juice or soft drinks, such as pina colada. In terms of calorie content, the drinks often replace a small meal: 250 kilocalories can easily be hidden in just one glass of Pina Colada or Mai Tai. That corresponds to a small hamburger. And seldom stays with a glass in the evening. By the way: Diabetics have to deal carefully with the effects of alcohol, and not just because of the alcohol content. The release of sugar by the liver is disturbed from a blood alcohol level of 0.45 percent. The breakdown leads to hypoglycaemia a few hours later - possibly despite the usual insulin dose.
