How does sampling and streaming change the music?

  • Data rate (stereo) (AAC and MP3 only): The higher the values ​​specified for the mono or stereo data rate (in kBit / s = kilobits per second), the higher the audio quality and the larger the file. The most commonly used data rate for stereo MP3 files is between 128 kBit / s and 192 kBit / s. Lower data rates are particularly suitable for audio files with spoken content (and not with music).

  • Coding with variable data rate (VBR) (only AAC and MP3): This setting changes the number of bits used to store the music, depending on how complex the music is. This allows files to be kept as small as possible.

  • Sampling rate: How many times per second the musical waveform is digitally recorded. The higher the sample rate, the higher the audio quality and the larger the file. Do not choose a sample rate higher than the rate originally used to save the tracks, as this will take up unnecessary storage space. The quality of CDs e.g. B. is 44.100 kHz. Therefore, if you are coding from a CD, it is unnecessary to choose a higher rate than this. In general, it is best to select “Automatic” as it will use the same sample rate as the original music.

  • Sample size (AIFF and WAV only): The number of bits used to store each sample that was recorded when the music was encoded. The larger the sample size, the better the audio quality and the larger the file.

  • Channels: If you don't have stereo speakers, or if you have mono audio files, choose Mono. (Mono files are only about half the size of stereo files.) If you want to play your music through headphones or a stereo, choose Stereo or Auto. “Automatic” converts mono tracks to mono files and stereo tracks to stereo files.

  • Stereo mode (MP3 only): In normal mode your MP3 files contain one track for the right stereo channel and one track for the left channel. In many cases, both channels contain information that belongs together. The “Stereo (Joint)” mode enables one channel to transmit information that is identical for both channels, while the other channel transmits the specific information. At data rates of up to 160 kBit / s, this can improve the sound quality of your converted recording.

  • Smart coding adjustment (MP3 only): Select this option to have Music analyze your encoding settings and the audio source.

  • Filter frequencies below 10 Hz (MP3 only): Select this option to filter out inaudible frequencies, resulting in smaller, more efficient files with no noticeable loss of quality.

  • Use high efficiency coding (HE) (AAC only): This setting optimizes the audio quality of highly compressed files. Select this option if you want to stream audio files.

  • Optimize for speech (AAC only): This setting changes the data rate based on the height of the human voice. Choose this setting if you're importing audiobooks rather than music.
