How does acupuncture work?
The thin acupuncture needles are placed at certain points on the body, where they remain for about 20 to 30 minutes and develop their beneficial effects while the patient relaxes on the couch. Most patients perceive acupuncture - not infrequently already with the first treatment - as beneficial, relaxing and often surprisingly quick to take effect. Western scientists are intensively researching the effects of acupuncture and have been able to prove in many studies that the Chinese healing method helps with a wide range of illnesses, often precisely when conventional treatment is unsuccessful. What exactly happens in the body during acupuncture has not yet been fully scientifically explained. Thanks to modern scientific research methods, the acupuncture effect has been explained much better in recent years. Several studies have shown that needling certain acupuncture points has special effects, e.g. relieving nausea and vomiting, reducing sensitivity to pain or promoting labor. The healing effect comes about, among other things, from the fact that the stimulating stimulus of the needles in the brain triggers an increased release of pain-relieving and mood-enhancing substances, which are often also referred to as "happiness hormones". These include serotonin, the body's own morphines such as endorphins and enkephalins. With modern methods such as functional magnetic resonance tomography, the effect of body acupuncture (or laser acupuncture) on the metabolism in the brain can be clearly demonstrated: there is a greatly increased activity in those areas of the brain that are connected to the stimulated acupuncture points. Large scientific studies show that acupuncture is superior to conventional medical therapies for a number of widespread diseases such as hay fever, tennis elbow, menstrual cramps, allergic asthma or chronic spinal disorders.

How long does acupuncture treatment take?
The duration of treatment depends on the type of illness, the intensity of the illness and the general condition of the patient. The average duration is 20 to 40 minutes.

When does acupuncture no longer help?
Acupuncture is a regulatory medicine. This means that acupuncture is linked to a functioning, organic system and, above all, can improve functional disorders and dysregulation. Therefore, all conventional medical examination methods must be used in advance in order to clarify whether the organ structure is damaged or destroyed (tumors, massive inflammations, broken bones, infectious diseases, etc.).
Every regulatory medicine requires a certain vitality and basic energy. This explains the particularly good effectiveness of acupuncture in children.
